Daisy Nook Garden Centre Environmental Policy
We believe that the environment and the impact we have upon it is extremely important. We are always looking into ways we can reduce our carbon footprint and operate in a more environmentally friendly way.
Recycling
We currently recycle as much as possible and continue to reduce the amount that is sent to land fill sites.
All of our green waste is composted.
Wood is recycled by either being sent to our local recycling depot or, in the case of wooden pallets, returned to our suppliers re-use.
With the purchase of our compacting machine in 2007 we are now able to recycle all our cardboard and plastic waste.
Carbon footprint
To help reduce our carbon footprint and assist the local economy we use local growers and suppliers wherever possible for the garden centre and Café Riverside.
Carrier Bags
We use biodegradeable carrier bags at our checkouts.
Organic & Peat Free
We stock an ever increasing range of organic products and a selection of peat free or peat reduced compost.
These include various organic plant feeds, insecticide and weed controls in our garden shop area, and peat free alternative composts.
FSC
The majority of the wooden furniture we stock is FSC certified (Forestry Stewardship Council). Being FSC certified shows that we comply with the highest social and environmental standards on the market.
As public concerns about the state of the world’s forests and timber resources increases, FSC provides you with a credible solution to complex environmental and social issues.
Community
We encourage links with local schools to promote gardening.
We provide free talks & demonstrations on gardening to customers & local groups.
