First stop is Ashton-under-Lyne’s Portland Basin Museum where your guests will hear how the picturesque quayside has been the backdrop to several high drama scenes in Coronation Street. They’ll go inside (except on Mondays when only the exterior is available) and hear about the area’s history before we head through scenic Saddleworth (background for a number of movies) and on to Marsden (home to TV’s Where The Heart Is and used in Last of the Summer Wine). Then it’s onto Holmfirth (the Last of the Summer Wine village) for free time to explore and grab a bite to eat at your guest’s leisure. The return is across the breathtakingly beautiful Saddleworth Moors. Our guide knew many of the Corrie and Summer Wine cast personally and visited during filming so has lots of tales to tell.

You can’t visit the actual studios so we’ll do the next best thing and see some of the ‘out of studio’ locations used for filming some of the most dramatic scenes. First stop is historic Portland Basin where Richard Hillman died (interior access not available on Mondays). Then we head off to Ryecroft Hall, which acts as Weatherfield’s registry office and where numerous characters have tied the knot. Next stop is the parish church in Prestwich which serves as backdrop for all funerals and church weddings (amongst other things). We then drive through Worsley (you won’t believe what Ken Barlow got up to there!) and then into Salford Quays where your guests have free time to explore and grab some lunch at their leisure. After that we’ll see where the new Corrie studios are being built, pass the current Granada Studios and visit the famous Red Rec park location before heading back to Daisy Nook. Our guide is a Corrie expert and is often used by the Corrie studios as an advisor so he’ll be able to answer all the Corrie questions your
guests have.

Our first stop is the local industrial museum where there will some free time to look around the recreated 1920s street (closed Mondays when we will visit the outside only). Then we are off to the pretty Moravian Settlement, a unique square of Georgian houses with an interesting past. From here we head into Manchester and the hidden gem – Castlefield.
We will leave the coach for a short walk (can be altered for less mobile groups if required) around the Roman ruins and canal area hearing about its history. Then we drop off in Salford Quays for some free time to explore and grab some lunch. Next we tour the old docks area and see the historic Ordsall Hall, hear about the cowboys and Indians who lived here and then head back through the city centre and back to Daisy Nook. Our guide is an expert on Manchester and Salford history.

The name Daisy Nook was invented by poet Ben Brierley and celebrated painter LS Lowry came here to paint. On this tour we hear about them but also visit places associated with Lowry as an introduction to his work. The first part of the tour will be on foot as we explore Daisy Nook itself before boarding the coach to drive through the areas of Salford and Manchester in which Lowry lived and worked.
The tour includes stops at Salford Art Gallery (not possible on Mondays) to see the recreated Victorian street interiors and the Lowry Centre at Salford Quays. Here we have some free time to explore and enjoy lunch at your guest’s leisure (please note that admission to the Lowry gallery is by donation and your guests will have time to visit if they wish and at their own expense). The tour also includes stops in Ancoats, Castlefield and Droylsden, three areas which Lowry visited and painted. Please note that this tour is an introduction to Lowry and industrial Manchester and is not aimed at academics.
